Dear listener,
My name is Tim Thompson. I'm an alternative singer/songwriter based in Savannah, Georgia.
Over the years since I started the journey/identity crisis of being an independent artist, I've mostly tried to do it by forming bands and putting out punk rock records. Anyone who's ever tried to have a band and play original music knows how difficult this is. Even setting aside the potential for “creative differences,” nobody lasts very long when there is no money to be made, no potential future money to be made and almost nowhere to play your music in front of an audience. People get better jobs, move out of town, start cover bands that take up all their time… the list goes on. Having said that, I've loved every minute of it, and in one way or another I'll probably never stop trying to do that thing. But for now, I'm trying something a little different.
It started as a suggestion from my good friend and fellow artist, Will Duncan: that I should come to his studio and record some of the versions of my songs that he'd grown accustomed to hearing at my solo shows and open mic nights around town over the years since we first met (which was back in 2021, I think). I agreed, we set a date, and (despite my suffering the lingering effects of a common cold) we managed to capture acoustic versions of six original songs: four of which have never been released before. For this project, we focused on the performances themselves. Overdubs and edits were kept to a minimum. Humanity, rather than perfection or polish, was our goal.
This EP, titled "If I Had a Friend that I Could Talk To," represents some of my most honest work to date: An unvarnished collection of simple songs about love, politics and rock and roll at the end of the world as we know it.
The lead single, “I Hope it Rains Tomorrow Morning” releases on the 12th of June 2026, followed by the entire project on the 26th. I am proud of these songs, and the way Will and I were able to capture them for this record. I am also especially grateful to Will and his belief in my songs and in this project. I look forward to sharing it with you.
Thanks for listening,
